About The Factory
The Factory is BAVC’s advanced video production collective for motivated teenagers in the Oakland Bay Area. Factory participants create professional-quality short films, music videos, and public service announcements. The program emphasizes creative and political expression through a strong visual style, and promotes collaboration between Bay Area youth and the organizations and individuals in their community. Participants are encouraged to explore issues important to them through fiction, documentary, and video art. They hone their skills as videographers, directors, and editors, while developing the interpersonal skills that collaborative filmmaking requires.
During the summer of 2011, BAVC partnered with Mozilla and Zero-Divide to pioneer a series of Web Native documentaries. You can read about this experience in this blog.
The Factory is also working with Mozilla to create a “web native” toolkit that teaches the principals of this emerging genre.
